Software comes in as many varieties as the hardware, but it is a little less daunting.
A great open source program that runs on all platforms is called Audacity. You can download it for free at: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Audacity works on both PCs and Macs, and it is very easy to use.
You will also need to download a small (free) program called LAME encoder – this is needed to get the file into the proper format for distribution. Installation is easy - just remember where you put it on your computer - Audacity will ask you where it is!
If you have a Mac, GarageBand comes installed and is a very easy program for podcasting. (LAME encoder is not needed for GarageBand)
There are also many audio editing programs available for purchase, from $40 - $200. Here are just a few:
* Adobe SoundBooth CS3
* Dexter Audio Editing
* Goldwave
